As public and government understanding of human trafficking has developed over the years, ACF is committed to ensuring that victims of all forms of human trafficking — adults and children; foreign national, citizens, and legal residents; survivors of labor and commercial sexual exploitation — have access to the support they need to foster health and well-being.
The ACF-wide Anti-Human Trafficking Initiative is a step towards implementing the federal government’s commitment to protecting victims by strengthening coordination across programs and Federal departments.
- Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR): The Anti-Trafficking in Persons (ATIP) program at ORR identifies and serves victims of human trafficking in the United States to become eligible for public benefits and services to the same extent as refugees. the program has initiated the Rescue & Restore Victims of Human Trafficking campaign to educate health care providers, social service organizations and the law enforcement community about the issue of human trafficking. The purpose of the campaign is to encourage those individuals who are most likely encounter victims on a daily basis to look beneath the surface, recognize clues and ask the right questions to help victims.
- Family & Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) — Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) Program: Each year, thousands of U.S. youth run away from home, are asked to leave their homes or become homeless. Through the Runaway and Homeless Youth Program (RHY), FYSB supports street outreach, emergency shelters and longer-term transitional living and maternity group home programs to serve and protect these young people.
- Family & Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) — Family Violence Prevention and Services (FVPSA) Program: The Family Violence Prevention and Services Program administers the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA), the primary federal funding stream dedicated to the support of emergency shelter and related assistance for victims of domestic violence and their children.
- Children’s Bureau (CB): The Children’s Bureau (CB) partners with federal, state, tribal and local agencies to improve the overall health and well-being of our nation’s children and families. With an annual budget of almost $8 billion, the Children’s Bureau provides support and guidance to programs that focus on Strengthening families and preventing child abuse and neglect; Protecting children when abuse or neglect has occurred; and Ensuring that every child and youth has a permanent family or family connection
- Office of Regional Operations (ORO): ACF’s 10 regional offices partner with local organizations, task forces, and coalitions of human trafficking awareness efforts throughout the year.
