Hope MacDonald Lone Tree

Hope MacDonald Lone Tree serves as the acting commissioner and deputy commissioner for the Administration for Native Americans overseeing a nationwide program supporting Native American self-determination by focusing on economic development to empower Native communities. Hope, a distinguished leader and advocate, has dedicated her career to serving these communities. She previously served in the 24th Navajo Nation Council on vital initiatives related to public safety, public health, and veterans. Her role as a Tribal Relations Advisor for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) involved providing expert analysis and guidance and collaborating closely with tribal leaders to address pressing criminal justice issues.

As the first woman elected to chair the Public Safety Committee of the Navajo Nation Council, Hope has made significant contributions to tribal governance. She co-chaired the DOJ's Office of Justice Programs Tribal Justice Advisory Group. She served on the U.S. Attorney General's Tribal Nations Leadership Council, focusing on victims of crime and restorative justice. Her extensive knowledge and experience in tribal and government affairs were instrumental during her two four-year terms as a councilwoman on the 20th and 21st Navajo Nation Councils. She has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including the 2013 Elected Woman of Excellence from the National Foundation for Women Legislators and the Arizona Citizen of the Year from the National Association of Social Workers.

In 2023, Hope was recognized for outstanding work with the White House Council on Native American Affairs, particularly her exceptional executive leadership and project management skills. She was instrumental in inter-agency coalitions, notably leading the Access to Capital initiative highlighted at the White House Tribal Nations Summit. Her remarkable organizational skills and ability to engage senior leaders ensured the successful completion of critical projects while fostering a respectful atmosphere for tribal leaders during the Summit.
