Native Early Childhood Development Initiative
The Administration for Native Americans values the importance of early childhood development in promoting the optimal growth, development, and well-being of Native children and families. Through our grant funding and engagement, ANA seeks to enhance nurturing early childhood experiences and healthy development during their critical early years. Healthy development means that children of all abilities can grow up having their social, emotional, and educational needs met.
Language
ANA believes language revitalization and continuation are among the first steps taken in preserving and strengthening a community’s culture. Use of native language builds identity and encourages communities to move toward social unity and self-sufficiency. Our funding provides opportunities to assess, plan, develop and implement projects to ensure the survival and continuing vitality of native languages.
MMIP
This MMIP Action Plan updates the TAC’s earlier work. It also advances the whole of government commitment to addressing the MMIP crisis and sets out a multipronged approach to advance ACF’s work in preventing violence to Native people promoting healing from historical trauma. Importantly, it adopts responsive administrative processes such as self-governance, and Indigenous knowledge, as well as identifying ways to leverage ACF’s grant funding, community engagement, and rulemaking authority.
