Introduction
The national dataset and state data tables linked below present estimates related to children who experience time in foster care and who are adopted from the foster care system, for each Federal Fiscal Year from 2013 through 2022. This reflects all AFCARS 1993 data received as of May 5, 2023 related to AFCARS reporting periods through September 30, 2022. The national dataset provides annual counts for seven indicators: children served, in care on September 30th, entered, exited, waiting for adoption, parental rights terminated, and adopted. The state dataset provides the same indicators broken out by state, with one tab per indicator and definitions included. Both datasets are available for download below.
