ATTACHMENTEssentials for Attorneys in Child Support Enforcement 4th Edition

Dear Colleague:

I am pleased to announce that the fourth edition of the Essentials for Attorneys in Child Support Handbook is now available.

The handbook is written as a guide for the child support (IV-D) attorney, but non-attorneys will also find it helpful because it describes changes in the child support program.

The first three chapters of the handbook will be of special interest to an attorney who’s new to the IV-D program.  Those chapters explain the roles and relationships of the federal OCSE, its regional counterparts, and the state child support programs.

The remaining chapters relate to case preparation and special initiatives, including domestic violence and access and visitation. The information is geared toward the IV-D attorney, regardless of whether the attorney practices in a judicial or administrative environment.

Besides substantive law, the handbook contains “best practice” tips gleaned from experienced attorneys. Some chapters contain exhibits and flowcharts. Where appropriate, chapters reference federal forms and resources. The handbook also cites state case law and includes references to state-specific provisions.

We hope this handbook is helpful to the child support legal community.

Sincerely,

Linda Boyer
Acting Commissioner
Office of Child Support Enforcement
