Who:
Candace enrolled in HPOG when she was 39 years old.

When: Applied: 2017; Completed: 2021
She applied and was accepted into the Northwest Ohio Pathway to Healthcare Careers (NOPHC) Project in February 2017. She enrolled in the state tested nursing assistant (STNA) program in March 2017, completed the course in April, and passed her exams in December 2017. Candace re-entered the licensed practical nurse (LPN) program in September 2019 after withdrawing earlier that year. She graduated in December 2020 and passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) in April 2021.

Why: Homeless Shelter
Candace lived in the Sparrow’s Nest, a shelter for homeless women, and was stuck in a dead-end job.

Where: Toledo, OH
Candance completed STNA training at Touching Hearts, Changing Lives in Toledo, OH. She completed the LPN program at Toldeo School of Practical Nursing. She got a job at the Opiate Treatment Center.

What: STNA and LPN
She received supportive services such as case management, academic advising, job search and placement assistance, basic education assistance, peer support and tuition assistance. Candace also received help with transportation and other training related costs, test and licensing fees. She is now employed as an LPN.
