Who
Kristal is a wife and mother of four children.

When: Started: 2019; Employed: 2021
She applied to the Work Attributes Towards Careers in Health (WATCH) program in early 2019 and was accepted. Kristal completed phlebotomist training in July 2020. She also completed licensed practical nursing (LPN) training and passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) exam in November 2020. She began working as an LPN in 2021.

Why: Support the Family
Kristal grew up in poverty and was a non-traditional student at 44 with a household and children to take care of. Her husband traveled often for work, and she struggled to manage everything on her own. While in LPN training, her husband lost his job at the same time Kristal’s brother passed away, so she had to step up to provide for her family.

Where: Milton, PA
Kristal completed phlebotomy training at Lock Haven University and LPN training at the Central Susquehanna LPN Career Center in Milton, PA. She obtained employment with Primecare Medical Inc. at Snyder County Correctional Facility.

What: Phlebotomy and LPN
Kristal completed phlebotomy and LPN training. She received supportive services such as tuition assistance, textbooks, vehicle repairs, a laptop, gas assistance, and work clothing. She’s employed full-time as an LPN making $18 per hour and receiving benefits.
