Who
Samuel was laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic and his unemployment benefits were coming to an end.

When: Applied: 2021; Graduated: 2021
He applied to the CareerAdvance Healthcare Job Training Program and was accepted in January 2021. Samuel enrolled in certified nursing assistant (CNA) training and received his certification in March 2021. He started employment the same month. His ultimate goal is to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN).

Why: Childhood Nurses
Samuel grew up in a low-income family and as a child, he was sick and had several hospital stays. He is motivated to become an LPN because of the nurses and healthcare professionals that tended to him.

Where: Tulsa, OK
Samuel completed training at Tulsa Tech in Tulsa, OK and obtained employment at Emerald Care Center.

What: CNA
Samuel works full-time making $11 per hour, taking care of medically fragile and bed-bound patients. Samuel is currently studying for the Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI) test to be admitted into the LPN program at Tulsa Community College.
