Who
Sarah is a single mother of two children who started her career in healthcare at age 19 to support her young family.

When: Enrolled: 2019; Graduated: 2020
She earned her Medical Assistant certification in late 2016 outside of HPOG and began working soon after. Sarah wanted to further her training as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) so she enrolled in the Kansas Health Profession Opportunity Project (KHPOP) in April 2019. She completed training and received her LPN license in December 2020.

Why: Passion for helping others
While working with older patients as a nursing assistant, Sarah developed a passion for helping those in need.

Where: Emporia, KS
Sarah completed LPN training at Flint Hills Technical College in Emporia, KS.

What: LPN
After a semester of prerequisites, Sarah finished her classes and maintained the grades needed to continue. She completed her LPN program while raising two children. She obtained employment as an LPN at a local retirement home earning $21.58 per hour.
